Welcome

Crime Stoppers encourages members of the community to assist local law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime by overcoming the two key elements that inhibit community involvement: fear and apathy.

Crime Stoppers provides a telephone number and Web Tips to encourage citizens in the community to volunteer vital information helpful to law enforcement agencies to fight against crime.

Crime Stoppers Loses 3 Dedicated Volunteers

Crime Stoppers of the Sioux Empire has lost three dedicated volunteers. These gentlemen had committed years of service to the safety and security of the Sioux Empire area.  Their contribution to Crime Stoppers and the community will be felt for years to come.

Dave Kearney served Crime Stoppers from 1999 until his untimely and unexpected death on August 31, 2011.  As the owner of Sioux Merchant Patrol, he was dedicated to the safety of the Sioux Empire both professionally and personally.  He was a selfless volunteer to many local organizations and supported youth athletics. His sponsorship of the KELO AM Crime of the Week and assistance in publicizing Crime Stoppers’ mission were invaluable.

Jim Hunter’s volunteerism began at an early age at Sioux Falls Cathedral, and continued until his death in August of this year.  He served on the Crime Stoppers Board of Directors from September 1993 until December 2009 and was always the first to step forward when there was a task to be done. He was active in many civic organizations in Sioux Falls and Madison and was an avid supporter of youth athletics.  Jim was described as having a “servant heart”.

Harry Swank served on the Crime Stoppers Board from January 2010 until his death September 23, 2011.  He used his retirement to serve others, as he had his entire career as a member of the United States Armed Forces for 23 years and an employee of the US Postal Service for 32 years.  He volunteered assisting the sick and their families and others in need of support and encouragement.  He was a big part of the success of the Crime Stoppers Shred Event.

Crime Stoppers of the Sioux Empire is honored and thankful for the service of these fine men and offer their heartfelt condolences to the families and friends they inspired.
