September 20, 2018

On September 20, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business near West 12th Street and South Marion Road for a burglary.  The investigation showed the suspects had broken the front window to gain access to the business.  Once inside the business, the suspects took a small free standing ATM and loaded it into their vehicle.  The value of the stolen ATM and the damage done to the building is approximately $9000.

On September 12, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to a parking lot near West 12th Street and South Lyons Boulevard for a larceny.  The investigation showed the suspects had stolen the rear door to a truck parked in the parking lot of the business. On September 4, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to a construction site near West 41st Street and South Ellis Road for a larceny.  The investigation showed the suspects had broken into a trailer parked at the construction site.  Once inside the trailer the suspects stole numerous construction tools.  The value of the damage done to the trailer and the stolen tools is approximately $20,000.

August 30, 2018

On August 29, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business near West 60th Street North and West Marion Road for a larceny.  The investigation showed the suspects had broken into a trailer parked in the parking lot of the business.  Once inside the trailer the suspects stole a generator.  The value of the damage done to the trailer and the stolen generator is approximately $3,000.

August 23, 2018

On August 17, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business near East 10th Street and South Bahnson Avenue for a burglary.  The investigation showed the suspect broke a window to gain access to the business.  Once inside, the suspect stole money from a cash drawer and a safe in the office.  The suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 6’0 and 180 lbs.  The suspect has dreadlocks, a goatee, and was wearing all black clothing.  The value of the damage to the building and the stolen items is approximately $1500.  A picture of the suspect is attached.

On August 14, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business convention at 3200 West Maple Street for a larceny.  The investigation showed that two suspects stole a thermal camera designed for veterinarian use.  The value of the stolen camera is approximately $25,000.

On August 2, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business in the area of West 12th Street and South Lyons Avenue for a larceny.  The investigation showed that suspects stole several sets of rims and tires from vehicles parked in the parking lot of the business.  The value of the items stolen is approximately $20,000.

August 02, 2018

On July 30, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business in the area of East Rice Street and North Cliff Avenue for burglary.  The suspects were able to gain access to the business by breaking out a window.  Once inside the business the suspects stole numerous boxes of clothing and merchandise.  The first suspect was described as a mid-twenties White male with a thin build, last seen wearing a blue baggy t-shirt and blue jeans.  The second suspect was described as a mid-twenties Black male with a thin build, last seen wearing a light colored t-shirt and light colored baggy shorts.  The damage done to the business and the items stolen is approximately $2500.

Armed Robbery 18-29798
July 26, 2018

On July 20, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business in the area of East Arrowhead Parkway and South Sycamore Avenue for an armed robbery.  The suspect entered the business, displayed a black handgun and demanded money from the employee.  The employee gave the suspect an undetermined amount of money and he ran from the business heading southbound on Sycamore Avenue.  The suspect is described as an African American male approximately 5’7” with a thin build.  The suspect was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black/blue jeans and black shoes with white soles.  SFPD #18-29798.

Vehicle Arson 18-26977
July 19, 2018

On July 19, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to a residence in the 1000 block of North Duluth Avenue for a vehicle arson.  The investigation showed that an unknown suspect poured an accelerant in the passenger compartment of the vehicle and lit it on fire.  The fire caused a considerable amount of damage before it could be extinguished.  The damage caused by the fire is approximately $20,000.   SFPD # 18-26977.  



Armed Robbery 18-28607
July 05, 2018

On July 4, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to the area of West 69th Street and South Louise Avenue for an armed robbery.  The investigation showed that the victim was using an ATM when another vehicle pulled up behind him.  After the victim got the money, the suspect exited the other vehicle and approached the victim’s window.  The suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and took his money.  The suspect then got back into the other vehicle and fled the scene.  The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 5’8” with a skinny build.  He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a black bandana covering his face.

Robbery 18-28117
June 28, 2018

On June 28, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to the area of East 8th Street and North Cleveland Avenue for a robbery.  The investigation showed that the victim was outside with several of his friends.  While outside a newer black 4-door car pulled up and several subjects got out and started yelling at the victim.  The victim started running away and the subjects chased after him.  They were able to catch up to the victim and pushed him to the ground.  While on the ground the subjects started hitting and kicking the victim.  The subjects took the victim’s phone and fled the scene.  SFPD # 18-28117.

June 21, 2018

On June 12, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to Frank Olsen Park at 4001 East 16th Street for an arson.  The investigation showed that the suspect had started the fire by lighting a roll of paper towels in the men’s restroom.  The damage done by the fire is approximately $3,000.  SFPD # 18-27045.

June 14, 2018

On June 12, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to a commercial business near the area of East Benson Road and North Lewis Avenue for a burglary.  The suspect was able to gain access to the business by prying open an entrance door.  Once inside, the suspect rummaged through several offices and the shop area.  The suspect stole numerous tools, electronic items, and some medical supplies.  The value of the damage done and the items stolen is approximately $40,000.  SFPD # 18-27006.  

Graffiti
June 07, 2018

Over the course of the last month, members of the Sioux Falls Police Department have responded to 26 separate reports of the same type of graffiti.  The graffiti has been painted/drawn on electric boxes, street signs, and power poles.  The damage from the graffiti is approximately $3,000.

Stolen Guns
May 31, 2018

Over the course of the last week, members of the Sioux Falls Police Department have responded to 6 separate reports of guns being stolen from vehicles.  On all of these incidents the vehicles were left unlocked.  In an effort to combat this problem the Sioux Falls Police Department encourages the public to employ some basic preventative measures which include: locking your vehicles, removing valuables from view, and not leaving guns in your vehicle. 



Copper Theft 18-5741
May 24, 2018

On May 23, 2018, Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a commercial business near the area of I-90 and Highway 38.  An employee of the business reported that an unknown suspect(s) had stolen a large amount of power cords to their equipment.  These cords contained a large amount of copper wire.  The value of the stolen cords is approximately $20,000.  MCSO #18-5741.



Fraudulent Scams

Over the course of the last several weeks, the Sioux Falls Police Department has taken numerous reports where people have fallen victim to online scams.  The combined value of loss in these scams is over $250,000.  These scams target people of all backgrounds, ages and income levels.  If you've only ever met someone online or are unsure of the legitimacy of a business, take some time to do a bit more research.  Remember, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.



Robbery 18-24517
May 10, 2018

On May 9, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to a commercial business in the area of East 6th Street and North Sycamore Avenue for a robbery.  Upon arrival officers found that an unknown suspect entered the business holding a knife, grabbed the employee who was working, and instructed her to open the safe.  The suspect forced the employee to open the cash register and he took an undetermined amount of money.  The suspect then fled from the store and ran to the south.  The suspect was last seen wearing black jeans, a black jacket, black shoes, black gloves, and a mask over his face.

Commercial Burglary 18-23857
May 04, 2018

On April 23, 2018, Sioux Falls Police responded to commercial business in the area of West 12th Street and South Kiwanis Avenue for a burglary.  Upon arrival officers found that an unknown suspect was able to get into the business by breaking a window.  Once inside, the suspect stole several pieces of electronics.  The value of the stolen items and the broken window is approximately $3,000.  The SFPD CC #2018-23857.
