Fraudulent Calls

Over the course of the last several weeks, the Sioux Falls Police Department has taken numerous reports where people have fallen victim to online/phone scams.  These scams target people of all backgrounds, ages and income levels.  If you've only ever met someone online or are unsure of the legitimacy of a business, take some time to do a bit more research.  Remember, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.



Larceny 21-12941
June 17, 2021

On June 15, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a commercial business near East Benson Road and North St. Paul Avenue for a larceny.  The investigation found that unknown suspects had accessed the business by jumping a fence.  The unknown suspects then stole tools from several vehicles in the lot.  The total loss is approximately $6000.00.  SFPD CC# 21-12941.

June 10, 2021

On June 10, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a commercial business near East 41st Street and South Sycamore Avenue for a burglary.  The investigation found that unknown suspects had broken into an ATM in the parking lot.  The suspects were able to obtain an undetermined amount of money before fleeing from the scene.

In the last 30 days, Sioux Falls Police have responded to 117 stolen vehicle reports.  A high percentage of these stolen vehicles had the keys left in the vehicle and were unlocked.  Some tips to prevent stolen vehicles are: 1-Don’t leave your keys in your vehicle.  2-Always roll up the windows and lock your car, even if it’s in front of your home.  Don’t be a victim of this serious crime.

May 27, 2021

On May 26, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to Yankton Trail Park at 3901 South Minnesota Avenue for a larceny.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect had broken out the window of the victim’s vehicle.  Once inside the vehicle the suspect stole several purses.  The value of the stolen items along with the damage done to the vehicle is approximately $3,000.

May 20, 2021

On May 18, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a residence near East 3rd Street and North Bahnson Avenue for a robbery.  The investigation found that several unknown suspects were dropped off by a Lyft driver.  One of the suspects grabbed the driver’s cell phone.  When the driver attempted to get his phone back another suspect pushed him and they took his car keys.  The suspects then stole the victim’s vehicle.

On May 12, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business near West 69th Street and South Louise Avenue for a burglary.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect was able to gain entry to the business by breaking a glass door.  Once inside the suspect stole 5 bottles of high end alcohol.  The value of the damage done to the property and the stolen items is approximately $21,000.

On May 4, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a parking lot near East 8th Street and South Reid Street for a larceny.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect was able to gain entry to a vehicle parked in the parking lot.  Once inside the vehicle the suspect stole a bag which contained an aviation headset and sunglasses.  The value of the stolen items is approximately $1500.

On April 26, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a residence near West Ralph Rogers Road and South Western Avenue for a burglary.  The investigation found that unknown suspects broke a window to gain access to the residence.  Once inside the suspects stole several pieces of jewelry and other valuable collectibles.

On April 21, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a residence near West 14th Street and South Main Avenue for a burglary.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect forced his way into the residence through an entrance door.  The suspect entered the laundry room and stole numerous pairs of women’s undergarments.

On April 10, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business near West 12th Street and South Willow Avenue for a burglary.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect(s) had forced their way into the business and took several vehicle keys.  The suspect(s) then stole two vehicles, one of which has been recovered.  The outstanding stolen vehicle is a 2009 Toyota Sienna, gray in color with a SD dealer plate of D1846.

On April 8, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business near West 49th Street and South Western Avenue for a burglary.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect(s) had forced their way into the business.  Once inside the suspect stole an undetermined amount of items and fled from the scene.

On April 1, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a business near East 15th Street and South Sycamore Avenue for a burglary.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect(s) had forced their way into the business.  Once inside the suspect(s) stole two vehicles.  The stolen vehicles are a 2011 GMC Sierra black in color with SD # 44SU17, and a 2010 Dodge Caravan Maroon in color with SD # 2Y0608.

On March 10, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a cemetery near East 12th Street and South Omaha Avenue for a larceny.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect had stolen a concrete statue off a headstone.

On March 10, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a storage building near West Russell Street and North Kiwanis Avenue for a burglary.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect had made entry into a storage unit and stole approximately 50,000 pairs of eyeglasses.  SFPD CC# 21-05452.

On March 10, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a job site near East 69th Street and South Bahnson Avenue for a burglary.  An unknown suspect made entry into the gang boxes left at the job site.  The value of the stolen items and damage done to the property is approximately $12,000.

On February 24, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a commercial business near East 10th Street and South Cliff Avenue for a burglary.  An unknown suspect made entry into the building by breaking out a window.  Once inside, the suspect stole an undetermined amount of money from the cash register.

February 25, 2021

On February 20, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to the area near West Madison Street and Interstate 29.  A citizen had called 911 to report that a mid-20’s aged female; wearing leggings with dark hair in a bun was being punched and grabbed by a mid-20’s aged Native American male with dark straggly hair, 4-5 inches in length. The male then lifted the female into what the witness described as a dark colored SUV with tinted windows and unknown Minnesota license plates. A picture of the vehicle is attached and it appears that the right fog lamp is not functioning.

On February 18, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a residence near West 12th Street and South Cherry Lake Avenue for a burglary.  The investigation found that unknown suspects had made entry into the attached garage through a walk-in door.  The suspects stole the victim’s vehicle along with several other pieces of electronics.  The victim’s vehicle was recovered a short distance away.  The value of the stolen items and damage done to the property is approximately $6,000.

            On February 9, 2021, Sioux Falls Police responded to a storage building near West Blackhawk Street and North Dakota Avenue for a burglary.  The investigation found that an unknown suspect had forced entry into the building and stole numerous items including tools, an Ariens snow blower and a University of South Dakota bicycle.  The value of the stolen items and damage done to the property is approximately $11,000.  SFPD CC# 21-03047.
